Well, so much for a hiatus. But I think that there is a subject that needs to be discussed further.
First, on Jef Halls blog you will see a post that tells us about Paul Esslinger contradicting himself by writing a letter to the editor regarding the loss of manufacturing jobs in Oshkosh and then the next day being seen in a "Toyota"... Well, I don't know where Jef gets his information from, but he is really off base with this one.
During the Forth of July parade, Paul was driving a PONTIAC G6 Convertible provided by Bergstrom Automotive. Any implication that Paul is supporting an overseas manufacturer is incorrect and untrue. Besides, most Toyotas that are sold here in the U.S. are built here in the U.S.
Next, on a similar issue, this mornings opinion poll on the ONW website is a question that asks if Paul "acts in the best interest of the city". What kind of question is that? And why are they singling out just one council member? Talk about poor taste, they have really sunk to a new level this time.
I know that the ONW doesn't like Paul and they have made that perfectly clear in the past. They are the biggest reason for the conspiracy theory over the River Mill sidewalks started. There isn't a big political conspiracy folks. Paul was simply acting on a statement made at an earlier meeting by a resident of a different neighborhood that brought up River Mill trying to avoid getting walks in front of his house. He was quoted as saying that "we are trying to avoid the PERCEPTION that the 'richer' neighborhoods can avoid sidewalks". The key word is PERCEPTION. There are too many "us vs. them" arguements in this city. The sooner that we realize that this city is equal the better we will all be.
In the meantime, we should probably THANK him for his public service. A service that he doesn't take a dime to do. All of his salary from the City goes right back to the city through donations to the Senior Center. This isn't an ego trip for him and his intentions are pure. Perhaps people should look beyond their opinion and see what is plain as black and white.
Enough venting for now, Stay cool everyone.

While I disagree with Paul on many issues, I respect the service he has given our city. To blame him for the direction this city has taken is ridiculous, as was the letter to the editor today. Get over it people, agree to disagree. Your candidate lost, you lost the sidewalk battle, enough of the sour grapes and personal attacks.
If Paul Esslinger rode in a car for the Fourth of July Parade that was provided by Bergstrom's I hope that ride was valued under $25. Because if it valued over that then his broken the $25 gift pledge one can recieved from someone when a elected official.
Maybe Jef Hall should look into this scandal! Imagine the nerve of Paul riding in a nice car. Shame on him. This should be a front page ONW story!
Meanwhile, Jef Hall obviously can see very well. The car Paul was driving (Jef said Paul was in the back too) was a PONTIAC G6. I know Jef has had some drinking problems but the parade was at 9:00am! My God, was Jef drunk at 9:00 already?
And I would like to know if Jef owns anything that is not made in the good 'ol USA?
Jef and the ONW, a match made in heaven.
If 3:28 doesn't sound like Mike Norton, then I don't know what does!
I allowed the comment made at 4:37 even though it has been posted on other sites that Jef Hall has been sober for 2 years. I have been informed that he was seen at a business after hours event with a beer in his hand. If he is willing to attend public functions and consume alchohol, I will allow that to be pointed out. I will, however, ask that we take care to not get carried away with our remarks.
Thank you
On another topic; it was posted earlier that Paul may have received a service or "gift" that exceeded the $25 limit that is imposed on public officials. That is incorrect. He did not benefit nor was the car that he used for the parade considered personal use. He was allowed to drive a Bergstrom car as advertising for the dealership in the parade only. He did not nor was he allowed to use it for his personal activities. Therefore, because he did not gain from it's use, the $25 gift limit does not apply.
I don’t care Kent, this rises to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors! This monster Paul must be stopped at once! How can we let him get away with driving a new Pontiac in the 4th of July parade!?
Jef, you need to stand up for us here! The city attorney must be called, the department of justice must be called, the FBI must be called! Get on you’re white horse Jef and save the day. Just don’t ride the white horse drunk!
