Kraft Retires.

Perhaps the POLL to the right was more accurate than I thought. Although I got word this morning about the retirement of our City Attorney, I haven't had a chance until now to write about it. This will be short as I am out the door in a minute again anyway.

I noticed that in the article for this story that Mr. Wollangk stated that the 100 block was not the reason for Kraft's early departure. Although that may not have been a deciding factor, I find it difficult to believe that it didn't play a role at all. There have been many instances in recent past that have been overshadowing the performance of Kraft and this may have been the final piece to that puzzle. Then again, there may be other reasons for Kraft to want out. After 23 years, perhaps he really didn't want to make the transition to another boss. If he was close enough, why not retire rather than put up with what lay ahead? Who knows? The bottom line is that it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, feel free to post your thoughts on the departure of our City Attorney and/or our City Manager. Remember though, that this is not personal and if any comments are made that are not appropriate, I will not post them.

Two down, more to go...who knows how many.

Kraft leaves abruptly!

Per the NW:
"Bain questioned whether the timing of Kraft’s departure was related to the council’s desire to ask questions about the 100 Block."

“If this was in the works prior, I think it would have been appropriate to be notified of that so we could have had conversations while the city attorney was employed,” Bain said.

Wollangk said Bain’s suggestion was “a bunch of garbage” and reiterated that the 100 Block had nothing to do with Kraft’s departure.

While some may try to find suspicions in the timing of Kraft’s retirement in conjunction with the 100 Block record, Councilor Jessica King said the retirement was likely because of changing expectations from the city council.

“I think it is just a demonstration that the city’s in a transition. I think some people are moving on and recognizing that there will be different leadership and different expectations,” King said. “I think it’s a style of leadership and are you going to make this transition to a new kind of governance.”

This COUNCIL ROCKS!!

"I think some people are moving on and recognizing that there will be different leadership and different expectations"

Lets keep moving forward and conduct a citywide performance and efficiency audit much like Winnebago County Board did.

Watching the presentation on channel 10, the city could easily use some of these very same recommendations for streamlining work.

One down, 2 to go.

Here's my wish list for the new city leadership:

City Manager: Someone committed to the most efficient use of tax dollars possible while providing the most services without charging extra fees. I'd also like someone who doesn't blame the state, revenue caps or property tax payers for "not having enough money".

City Attorney: Someone committed to open government meetings and records and vigilance to make sure that all things the city does are above board and open to public view.

First off, it's POLL, not POLE.

Secondly...we got Wollangk. We got Kraft. Kinney would be the trifecta. It's what Bain, Palmeri and Esslinger wanted all along....how you you think till Kinney is gone?

11:56- Your right... Oops. Correction has been made.

Perhaps you should do some proof reading yourself though. I think you meant to ask "how LONG you think until Kinney is gone?"

Not exactly proper, but understandable no less.

Hey Kent,

How many times are you gonna post something along the lines of "Two down, more to go?"

And there's a difference between a typo and an improper use of a word. It's like screwing up there, their and they're. Hell, it's like reading the Northwestern.

This is an arrogant council with the same attitude as the governor and the university system.
Rules are for everyone else…. where will it stop?
These councilors respect no one’s opinion but their own. Sometimes is appears they don't even respect each other.
They are NOT representing the majority of the taxpayers.
They ask for and get citizen input
only to disect and find fault with the citizen.
They are representing the University and in all too many aspects of our city the university is controling.
All to often they discuss and repeat and discuss or layover while speaking about doing the best for the citizens of Oshkosh…this is nothing more than lip service.
Their actions are for their own political advancements or survival. Slowly they are getting rid of good experienced city personal with years of proven service.
Now they get the hire a person of their own choosing.
Any bets that it is someone from or with backing from the university???
How will you feel when the university controls city hall? BEWARE

I believe there should be some "retirements" elsewhere.

It's time for Cheryl Hentz and her useless sidekick Dan Rylance to retire. I'd like to say retire from journalism, but they're not journalists. Cheryl lies in her "reporting" and Rylance just sits there like a bump on a log and asks stupid questions.

I wish the council could force these pathetic people to retire.

What do these people do in their real life. Does Cheryl Hentz even have a job? And isn't Rylance a college professor. God, with any bad luck we'll see him run for council. We've seen Hentz run for council and loose badly.

More hate for UW-O. Why do so many Oshkosh citizens fear/hate our university? We should embrace the university and everything it adds to our community.

This is the best, most active, council we've had in years. King and B. Tower represent the status quo and favor the wealthy elite. Esslinger and McHugh are for the working person. Palmeri and Bain are excellent debaters and along with Mayor Tower have a history of swing votes, not aligned with either the elite or working-class crew. This is a council that will take Oshkosh forward and clean out the "Good ol Boys Network" Fair and balanced. Just the perfect mix!

I took a little jaunt down River Mill today. The sidewalks look BEAUTIFUL. I sure hope the snobs don't mind the big, dirty trucks that are on the road. How dare those big, dirty peasants leave their greasy, dirty equipment behind?! When Paris gets home she's going to be upset! The road was very wet. I didn't know if it was from the rain or from the crying going on over there.

I heard that the vehicle of choice for River Mill is a SnAAB. Is that true River Mill gang???

For shame, the elite having to have sidewalks like the commoners. What is this world coming to?? The next thing you know the elite will have to put their pants on the same way as commoners!

Fair and balanced.??
Do you work for Fox News??
The scales are greatly unbalanced with the heavy-weights catering to the influence from the elite and the university system.
A system that elevates itself beyond the law;
using student private records to find poor students to back the governor news conference last week,
student loan moneys for their own private gain.
Why would anyone embrace such tactics?

The city needs the "good ole boys" and their investments in Oshkosh.
Oshkosh needs business and JOBS.
Oshkosh needs the "good ole boys" their connections & experience.
These are working class people who know that hard work and dedication will move us forward.
We don't need a council that rips and tears down what has been built in the past years. We don't need a council that wants to change the form of government.
We certainly don't need a bunch of part-timers to micromanage the full time job of running a city.

Chancellor Richard Wells for City Manager!

Dennis McHugh really rose to the occasion at the past council meeting:

“Now when they say ‘let the people do the dirty work’, well then I hope the Manskes will want the school board then, or the citizens, to gather enough signatures to put their proposed referendums on the ballot too. Why pick on city council? Lets get all the people to do the ‘dirty work’. Well, it almost sounded like I heard the word “Proletariat” in one of their comments, because I have a lot of respect for the citizens of Oshkosh. We have a lower income than other people in the Valley and maybe we are looked down upon a little bit, I love these people. I think they want a change, they have communicated to me by the hundreds the last 3 or 4 months. They have a right to have this put on the ballot. It’s just a smoke screen to claim that nobody wants it, that we’re doing fine. I challenge anybody to prove that.”

I don’t often agree with Dennis McHugh, but I mostly agreed with him Tuesday night. I also believe that many Oshkosh citizens want a change, that they are tired of hearing story after story about poor development schemes, poor decision making, and poor management of taxpayer money.
